I had a cerebral hemorrhage (bleeding stroke, not blood clot) at 8 weeks post-partum. My neurologist never figured out why--not high bp, not overweight, not over 40, etc. I had a normal pregnancy with no complications. I've been to several doctors, and none of them know if I am at risk for a stroke after next potential pregnancy. Does anyone else have any ideas?

I have had multiple MRIs, angiograms (cardiac and neural), and EKGs. All tests came back as for a perfectly healthy individual.

Cerebral hemorrhage is more commonly known as an aneurysm; it usually caused by a weakened blood vessel wall, and in your case it could have been a pre-existing defect that was exacerbated by the stresses of labor. This could happen again, or it may never happen again.

The best thing you can do is before you become pregnant again, have a full neurological work-up done, including MRI, to make certain that there's not another potential trouble spot.

During your next pregnancy, you should be monitored closely and you should have MRI's done every few months or so to montior the brain to try to find the cause. Personally, I wouldn't suggest having another baby anytime soon. Give your body time to fully heal and hopefully give the doctors a chance to figure out what caused it. It was most likely a fluke thing but it's better to be safe than sorry.

Hmm.. this is a really weird one. We hardly ever see this. I haven't seen on personally, so I don't know. I would suggest that your next pregnancy be monitored very carefully, and that you be checked after delivery for any problems like this. It could have been the pushing.. all the pressure that built up, and it was a weak vessel. It couldn't hold up to all the pressure of pushing. That's the only thing I can think of. It had to already be weak for it to burst like that though. Hmm.. this is a stumper....
