Hello DogCat -

Ive grown Ixora -- its beautiful. I am uncertain where/what part of the world (and US) you live in; but, this will really only grow well in Calif, AZ, FL - warmer climates and milder winters. You can grow specimen large plants in larger pots with good drainage - and, this should be your first rule: whether in the ground or in pots: have good drainage, meaning soil mixed with clean (river) sand or perlite.

The enjoy the heat, but also as the heat increases their demands for water will also increase. If they are exposed to VERY hot conditions - then light shade is recommended. They are easy to grow otherwise. I recommend that Ixora is best to prune them after they flower (after a few weeks of rest) - which will then increase the flowering stems for future growth.

Try several Florida based growers, where Ixora is usually grown for the rest of the US -- you can find many online and a wide variety of varieties.

A highly recommended and often neglected beautiful flower!
