bathing your rat is not always recommended, but i do anyways. i have seven rats and all like to get dirty. you can use baby shampoo, but use very little of it. it's not always recommended by rat enthusiasts.

i was told you can use oatmeal formula shampoo for dogs on them, but also use as little as possible. i find this one to be a bit ify. so stay closer to the small animals shampoo if needs be.

i found a liquid and dry shampoo that works great on mine. i bathe them at least two to three weeks a week if needed.

the shampoo i use is called pet scentsations premium small animal shampoo. it raspberry scented. they also make a dry shampoo. you can find this product at just about any petco stores or petsmart.

dry shampoo is recommended for winter time use because bathing rats during cold weather is just hard on them. when using dry shampoo you need to first brush your rats hair, then sprinkle recommended amount. i think you let it set a couple of minutes then you thoroughly brush out the dry shampoo.

obviously, the liquid can be used during summer.

by nature, rats are clean animals. using shampoos on a regular basis can take away the natural oils from their coat and dry out their skin.

i would use only when needed.

Yes, you can wash a pet rat. You should go to your local pet store and pick up some shampoo for rats, as some human products will dry the rat's skin out and/or cause irritation.

You wager! I bathe my rats frequently utilising break of day or Palmolive dish cleansing soap. (those soaps do help administration fleas and a few mites.) that's the habitual: In sink (bathing room or kitchen - in spite of you're maximum mushy with), run approximately an inch of lukewarm water. Take this dishsoap and squirt a tiny quantity in a extensive cup (i exploit quickly nutrition plastic cups) and dilute with water. Pour over rat, ranging from at the back of head to tail. Do the top final - they'll panic. Rinse great properly - do no longer go away any cleansing soap residue or they could have pores and skin inflammation. I rinse my rats under a working faucet (lukewarm). they're (maximum besides) already disenchanted, so this merely makes the rinse activity plenty quicker and greater effective. Then towel dry properly and placed them of their clean homestead. they'll fluff and muff and make themselves very clean after the ordeal. Hmmm.....fluffy clean rat scent (rats do have their own smell!) What fortunate rats to have you ever to stay with!

you can bathe your rat but it may be quite a wet experience. mine love to jump right out of the tub and into my shirt. use a mild kitten and puppy shampoo on them. anything but an animal shampoo can really bother their skin. make sure that you have a towel handy and have something on that you don't mind getting soaked.

Yes, you can wash it in the toilet and spin dry it using the little lever on the side by pulling down. See the movie Flushed Away.

ferret shampoo might work b/c ferrets are real sensitive too. you're not even supposed to use baby shampoo on them.
