devote as much time as you can to it. Its going to make up a good percentage of your final mark. Ideally you should have done the research by now and be a good way through the writing stage, but in reality the majority of students leave it to the last minute. Good luck!

Mine took me 18 months and that is about the average. You are on a hiding to nothing if you research "as you go along" you will completely stress yourself to bits and your head will bounce off your shoulders and down the road by itself. During the course of my reading and research (and remember you should be reading whole books as well as many relevant journal articles) the subject of my dissertation changed about 4 times. Plus, there are also the many supervisory interviews you should be having as well. I'm surprised that your supervisor/tutor hasn't stepped in already to find out what is going on.

I am sorry but I am not going to be irresponsible and fob you off with unsatisfactory reassurance that you are going to be able to do this and do this well.

I would book an appointment now with your course tutor and ask for an extension or better still if you could repeat the year again and start thinking up some valid excuses for why you are so far behind. I had to repeat the whole of my third year of nurse training when my father was ill and eventually died; I felt so ashamed that I couldn't hold it all together, but now I am grateful that I had that extra time. It never held up my career and it taught me a lot for my future job as a nurse and a lecturer. PLEASE follow my advice and don't make yourself ill over this.

You'd better start spending entire weekends on it if it's due at the end of April and you're researching it as you go.

I wrote mine (10,000) the night before it was due in. About 12-15 hrs. Anything is possible. It wasn't all rubbish, but I wouldn't recommend it.
