I am curious why it is mostly an older population that joins croquet clubs... is it that you don't explore the option as a young person, or because you don't know it exists? I am 28 and would like to play... but do not want to play with the retirees... there is alot of skill in the sport, much like golf, there are tournaments, schools, handicaps, exclusive clubs etc... but I want to play with a younger crowd.... So, I am curious if it is attractive to people under 45...

Sure. It's a lot of fun, especially if you get a large group of younger people to play. There are local leagues around. Search google for your area.
