It would be great if they did. Then all the americans wouldn't move to canada when they retire and suck our medical system dry that WE pay for our whole lives.

Absolutely not. The first thing to consider is the cost. Health care that is subsidized by the government is paid for by the tax payer (you and me). The average income tax rate in coutries that have "socialized medicine" is roughly 60% to 70%. That means you will only take home 30 to 40 dollars of every 100 you earn (assuming you have no state or local taxes to pay as well). Also in most countries you are only able to go to a set group of providers that service your area. The waiting list to see a doctor can be very long. Forget about seeing a specialist - they will not participate in the socialized sector, they will remain in private practice for the benefit of cash paying customers (the rich) while everyone else gets whomever the government can find.

This is why a large number of Canadians come across the border each year to have operations etc. This is merely a small sample of information on the topic. There have been and are too many examples around the globe that prove it doesn't benefit it's citizens long term. It places yet one more thing in the hands of the government that should not be there.

I think the U.S. can afford it; yet, they simply have No political will to do so.

The U.S. can quickly find $400 billion (and counting) to fight a useless war in Iraq; yet, fail 100% in socialist medicine. It's a Global-disgrace.

It has been said that our taxes would skyrocket to pay for the cost of socialist healthcare; yes it would, IF, you taxed income as opposed to Taxing other areas. Taxing Tobacco and Alcohol sales would reap Billions annually. The American Goverment has long lost touch with the Mind and will of the American People; they do what they want when they want, Globally.

Voters, voted Marijuana legal in certain areas of this state; our "Government" elected to ignore Law and manipulate it and continued to make arrest; point, the pople are loosing ground to a Police state. No, I don't smoke Marijuana but the point is valid.

When Americans are feed up, things will change.

No, it should not. There is a reason why people in other countries come here for health services that are often unavailable anywhere else.
