x/2 - 3/4 = x/6+1/8

I used the distributive property and LCD of 24 .... so then I got:
12x-18=4x+3
After this I keep going in circles never getting a solution! What's the next step??

x/2 - 3/4 = x/6 + 1/8
12x - 18 = 4x +3
12x - 4x -18 = 4x - 4x +3
8x -18 = 3
8x - 18 + 18 = 3 + 18
8x = 21
8x/8 = 21/8
x= 21/8 or 2 5/8

I have included extra steps so you can deduce where you went wrong.
To be perfectly honest if you knew how to find the LCD then you should have had no problem doing the rest of the problem. You might want to surf the internet and find a web site to practice on. There are tons of sites that you can practice linear equations.

I got the same 12x-18=4x+3
After that you would get the x's on one side and the numbers on the other:

12x-4x=18+3
then
8x=21
answer:
x=21/8

You have to isolate x. The next step is to get all of the x's on one side of the equation, and then go from there!

12x-4x=3+21

just keep going on

12x-4x = 18 + 3,

8x = 21,

x = 21/8.

x = 2.625.

This is the answer to the question. You don't get a whole number as a solution.
