Everything has weird packaging now! Toy cars also often come screwed to a bit of plastic in the bottom of the box. Dolls are covered in so many wires and bits of elastic, and the hair is often sewn into plastic. There's no way kids can get them out the packaging themselves. It gets really frustrating for them. My kids find it upsetting if they've saved up pocket money or birthday money for something, gone to buy it, paid themselves, but then have to get a grown up to get it out the box for them!
If I'm buying gifts I remove them from the packaging and put them loose in the box before I wrap them - I've yet to meet a child who was upset that their toy rattled around the box a bit!
I did buy my son a Hot Wheels car yesterday that was just between two pieces of plastic that slid apart once you opened the box - meaning he could play with it straight away - no frustration, no tantrums. So I think Hot Wheels deserve mention for NOT having ridiculous amounts of packaging!

Christmas eve now takes me three days
this is because I like to get the toys out of the box, fit batteries, check they work and wrap them
Doesn't sound like a hard job until you find that the only thing that will get through those plastic, sealed bubbles is my "space scissors"
My mother bought them in the 1970s (they are supposed to be made out of the same stuff as the space shuttle!)
Then there are the plastic tie cables
Then with toys such as Barbie and My little Pony the hair is sticky taped to the box too! So you have to take them out, losing as little hair as possible!

I got a friend's kid a doll - it was secured into the back of the box with 12 zip ties. (It was NOT going to come out!!!)
Brings to mind a different story - a friend ordered a sword for Ren faire. It was mounted between 2x4's for shipping. Would you believe that the Post Office STILL managed to bend the tip of the blade?

i got my Xbox360 wireless networking card, and it came in one of those heat shrunk packs, i tried and tried to pull it open to no avail so i cut the top off of it and what happened i cut half the top of the instruction manual off, and thats not the worst of it when i then pulled the pack apart the networking adapter came flying out and hit the wall with serious force, lucky i didnt break it really, because if the package was open they would just say it was my own fault, those shrink wrapped bubbles should be banned

The packaging has gone out of control just yesterday,
I almost lost it with my anger and tore up item trying to get it out of the frigging hard plastic cover. It's gone too far.
If it gets stolen so be it,they'd never get it open...I agree
It's stupid.
