Get her a gift certificate to a spa, take her to dinner and a movie or buy her a nice gift...like a piece of jewelry. Gift.com, redenvelope.com are good sites. I'm sure she will appreciate it!

It depends on her personality really. If she's not into celebrating and the whole party thing then definitely do a spa day type treat for her or surprise her with a weekend getaway (even if it's only an hour out of town at a nice hotel with room service and stuff). If she's more into wanting to celebrate with friends and have fun like that then you should do something memorable and unique for her. Just an example: my brother-in-law knows how much my sister loves celtic bands and found out there was a local celtic band so he talked to her fav bar and the band and arranged to have the band play at the bar, when he took her there just to meet some friends for her 30th b-day it was a huge surprise and she said it was so awesome. He was lucky and it didn't cost that much and it was definitely very memorable. So maybe go over in your head things she's been hinting at or you know she's always loved and see how you can use that to your advantage to do something special. Best of luck!

Make the effort right from the start of the day, get the kids involved if you have them. Make it an extra special 'be nice to mum day.' All go for a nice lunch, visit the park. Then get a babysitter that YOU arrange and take her off for the night to a nice hotel for a meal and stay over if u can afford it (most hotels do good 1 night dinner, bed , breakfast deals at this time of year). Don't buy her anything gaudy!! A nice watch or bracelet to mark the occasion. You don't have to break the bank as long as you've made the effort and arranged everything yourself she'll appreciate it.

Here's something creative that will be appreciated and you will have fun doing:

Make up a crossword puzzle and have all the hints be personal inside moments and jokes that only you two would know about. Put it on a poster board and add some clipart and some pictures to it!

The crossword puzzle could be time consuming and a bit frustrating ... you could do the same idea with a WORDSEARCH or WORDFIND puzzle.

Put your computer skills to work! Use Excel, get clipart from Yahoo Images Search, copy them, and reformat them, use a gluestick to put on posterboard.

Use graph paper, and pictures from magazines if you are not as good on the computer, and it will give it more of a homemade feeling.

The hints could be something to symbolize the importance of each of her 30 years.

Take her away on a surprise trip somewhere. My best mates hubbie told her to pack a weekend bag and have her passport but refused to tell her where they were going!!!! He took her to New York and she absolutely adored it......
If you can't stretch to that, then book her somewhere like Babington Hotel in Somerset, that's supposed to be lovely and has a spa..... At the end of the day, she is very lucky to have a husband that obviously really wants to make her birthday special. I'd be happy with that!

My husband threw me a surprise party at a local restaurant with a few of my closest friends and family. I was very surprised because he never did anything like that before. I say do something she would never expect you to do. If you get her a massage or something like that try reflexology(it is massaging of the feet but it relaxes the whole body somehow)

If don't tell everyone she is going to be 30...and take her out for a nice relaxing weekend..maybe let her hit the spa for a couple of hrs you go out and try to find the best gift, eat dinner together , and of course end the night with a friendly *hug* of passion.

It really depends what your wife likes...

A nice romantic break is always a winner!!!
What about naming a start or a rose after her.... That's something that she will cherish forever!
