Dec 21, 2012 is just the end of the Mayan "long count". The calendar simply ends just like ours does on Dec31. This is, in fact, the 13th long count. So Dec22, 2012 will be the beginning of the 14th long count

Where the apocalyptic part comes in is that the Mayans believed that things occur in cycles and the end of a long count is a major point in these cycles. The prophecy for this point in the cycle is for much strife, many bad things, but they never said anything about the world coming to an end.

There been many, many "end of the world" prophesies that have not come to fruition. I would say that this is no different. In 2013 we'll have a new date to "worry about".

In any event, live your life now. If the world really does end on this date because fate cannot be avoided, there is little point in worrying about it. Take control over the parts of your life that you can, accept the rest.

Scary? Well the scariest thing for me is that people still give this kind of superstition credence. I recall reading an article that more people believe in ghosts than believe man set foot on the moon. There are people who really believe that walking under a ladder causes bad luck, are scared of the number 13. I am not mocking - their fears are very real to them. What I'm saying is that their fear doesn't have any basis in reality - solely on what they believe.

So don't worry. I bet that my electricity bills will still arrive after 1st January 2013.

first, I don't think anyone will ever know when the world will "end". It's an impossibility to know for sure, so people pretty much guess.

You can spend your time worrying about when the world will end or spend it trying to enjoy your life. I choose the latter option.

Besides, I think it was the Mayans who predicted that the world would end in 2012. But where are they now? =)

I'm not sure when the world will "end" but a very powerful solar storm that will hit the area around and in Manhattan killing thousands of people is predicted by 2011. All those deaths could be prevented but bigshot electric companies won't want to shut down their electricity flow.F**k them all!!

2012, just another year...
The Mayans looked at this as the end of a calender cycle, NOT the end of the world. That took present day religious and superstitious nuts

Even if it was true, what are you going to do about it? Who cares I have better things to worry about.
