I had a mammogram done two days ago, I was sent there from my doctor bc we found a lump in my breast. I am only 20. I went in, they did the mammogram. My insurance only covers what my doctor refers also, and after the mammogram they said they wanted to call over and reccomend I get an ultrasound on it also. I did. Well, then after it, they just said okay your done, you can go now. I thought I would get results, a good or a bad. I asked, um So do I get the results from my doctor? and, she said yes, thats how it usually works. If its bad dont they usually tell u right there, they can tell u results cants they? also, do i wait for my doctor to call me, do i call and make an appt? how long do i wait?

The mammogram usually takes 10 days to two weeks for a full assessment. A specially trained technician will look at your films and contrast them to your ultrasound results. If anything is amiss, you will definitely hear back from someone.

Just to be safe however, if you don't hear from anyone by, say, the 19th, contact your doctor and ask about the results. Chances are, most places (my doctor's office included) takes the no-news-is-good-news stance on things.

Good luck.

A mammogram can take up to 2 weeks to get the results back. If they sent you for an ultrasound as well, they may wait to give you results until they compare the 2 tests to be sure. They could also be trying to decide if they want to do a biopsy as well. You can call tro check on the status but the doctor will call you with results. Sometimes they get backed up with calls to make and test results coming in, especially a specialty office, so you calling for results can actually make that go faster if they get them back. Just think positive, it could simply be a benign tumor or cyst that just need drained or removed. Good luck!!!

You never get the results right then - unless it's really bad news. Your films are in line behind others to be read by the radiologist, who will then send a report to your doctor. Typically, you don't even need to call unless they tell you to, you usually get something in the mail saying "you're okay" or "call for an appt".

The radiologist reads the film, and then sends a report to your doctor. If it was two days ago, then your doctor should have the results. Call the doctor's office, and tell them you want your doctor to call you with the results.
