We don't have a huge budget to work with and we'd like to drop the kids off at Grandma's and split for a long weekend. We live in south-eastern PA and are within a few hrs. driving distance to Philly, Baltimore, DC, New York, Atlantic City (but I don't like to gamble!) Anyone from any of those areas give me some ideas for a wonderfully fun and romantic weekend that won't make us remortgage our house???

Wildwood, NJ - anywhere on the Jersey shore EXCEPT for Atlantic City.

I presume that the Poconos are ruled out due to gambling. Not every place in the Poconos has slots.

I'm partial for Nemacolin resorts in Western PA. One can get there in 3 hours thanks to the PA Turnpike.

Finally, I like the Rocky Gap State Park in Allegany County, MD. You and your husband can do horseback riding, paddling in the lake and other things. Plus, they have weekend specials for $100 a night or something like that. The State of MD needs more tourists to visit this natural resource about 3 hours from SE PA.

Here's something creative that will be appreciated and you will have fun doing:

Make up a crossword puzzle and have all the hints be personal inside moments and jokes that only you two would know about. Put it on a poster board and add some clipart and some pictures to it!

The crossword puzzle could be time consuming and a bit frustrating ... you could do the same idea with a WORDSEARCH or WORDFIND puzzle.

Put your computer skills to work! Use Excel, get clipart from Yahoo Images Search, copy them, and reformat them, use a gluestick to put on posterboard.

Use graph paper, and pictures from magazines if you are not as good on the computer, and it will give it more of a homemade feeling.

Check out Bed and Breakfast Inns outside of DC. Most are romantic and should fall well within your budget.
