What I meant was the largest privately owned company. Newspapers, books, magazines and anything of the like.

Communist countries do not allow privately own companies to exist, and private ownership is forbidden.

If you are not sure, why are you answering the question in the first place?

The News Corporation (Rupert Murdoch) is a major global player, with an international publishing company (HarperCollins), newspapers that are dominant in Australia and the United Kingdom, as well as the NY Post in the USA.

News Corporation also owns Fox Broadcasting, Fox TV stations, as well as BSkyB, DirecTV, FoxTel, Sky Italia, Fox Movie Channel, Fox News Channel, Fox Sports Net, The National Geographic Channel, as well as 20th Century Fox.

The only other major challenger to News Corporation's widespread "hold" on publishing is Gannett, which is the USA's largest newspaper group, with 90 newspapers with a combined circulation of 7.3 million. This includes USA Today, with 2.3 million circulation.

Ingram is one of the major distributors. There are only a few publishing houses left, if you are speaking about books.
