Yes, although Mandy S above makes a good distinction. In the US, a holiday is a scheduled day off to celebrate a specific occasion. In English speaking countries elsewhere (particularly Great Britain), the term "holiday" is often used to refer to what we Americans would call a "vacation."

The bottom line is that if you expect any employer to work around "your schedule," you're probably not destined for management. Business owners and bosses prefer to employ people who are willing to put their interests secondary to those of the business. Think about it.

I'm confused...

If you're talking about holidays like actual holidays (Christmas, Thanksgiving, Labor Day, etc.), then yes, he can. All companies I've ever worked for did.

If you're using the word "holidays" to mean when you can take your vacation time, he does get to make the final decision. For example, if you decide you want to take the entire week of Thanksgiving off and use your vacation time, I know of absolutely zero restaurants who will let you do that, since the two biggest shopping days of the year are that Friday and Saturday. I don't think he can make you take your vacation at a certain time, but I do know he can reserve the right to deny your vacation-time request.

There is no law that says an employer must pay their employees for holidays. They also do not have to give sick or vacation time either. If he is saying that he will give you a different day off at another time because you worked a holiday then yes.

yes & no. He can tell you when you cant have a holiday. If he couldnt do that then everyone could book the same week off which would stuff him well & truly! Always check first & book as far in advance as poss & keep reminding him!
