Hi! I realize that getting good grades in college is important for being competitive in getting internships and jobs, but what happens if your grades are average? My GPA is about a 3.1, although I have a feeling it might go down a little bit this semester. I feel like I am beating myself up about it. If my grades are just average, how negatively will that impact me on the job market? How important is GPA with employers? I'm a Journalism major, by the way. Any advice would be great.

Yes if you ever transfer the grades might determine if you get the credit for the course. also if you ever go back to school for a masters or phd, they will look at your grade. Employers might ask you what your grades were like, on this you can not lie.

Grade point average is only important for graduation from college. I would say it has very little importance to employers.
Your 3.1 sounds pretty good to me.

In my experience, employers dont check your GPA. They only care if you have a degree. On that note, many schools wont give you credit forclass required for your degree that is less than a "C".

Secondly, though, if you are interested in Grad School your GPA needs to be above 3.0.

I don't think it really matters so much, the key is to learn your field and show your worth. However, you should at least maintain a 3.0 or better so you can get into Grad school should you choose to go later.

Most of us are average. It might be a bit harder to get that first job, but after that, shouldn't be a problem.

Employers don't give a damn about your GPA. Experience, personality and work samples are more importiant.
