How might the book have been different if Steinbeck had written it in the 1950's. Help please.

It would have been a modern book,because the 1950 s were dominated by modernism!

There was much less strife and social unrest in the 50's. I doubt that all of the hardships seen in the novel would be found in a book from the 50's. Becuase of this i would also imagine that the message would be less political as controversial books and political views often arise out of time periods of social unrest. In other words when things are good you get happy novels about happy people. But when things are bad you get novels about the horrible conditions and people being pushed to thier limits and the deperate actions of depserate people.
