First of all to the people who said the team that has more wins, that is nonsense. Once the play-offs start every team has 0 wins. Look at how many lower seed teams have made runs in the past. Edmonton last year was the #8 seed in the west and had the least wins in the conference and won the west so throw that out.
Those of you who praise Zetterberg and Datsyuk better give their head a big shake and look at the play-off stats for those two. Throw that out.
OK, Detroit either seems to bow out in the first round or win the cup. They lost some leadership (Shanny/Yzerman) but still have alot (Lidstrom/Chelios etc) They have a decent shot if Hasek is healthy (big if) and they finally get some production out of the 2 aforementioned guys.
Nashville's goalies really have never accomplished enough in the play-offs to say they can compete in that department but maybe Vokoun does this year. Pretty good team but I don't like their chances so much so I'd say Wings by a nose.

Right now it is the Predators by a point in the standings, but they play twice next week. Still, those games won't mean a thing. There is only one way to really find out: 7 game series in the playoffs. In the meantime, you have to call them pretty much even. The Predators have better depth and skill at forward, as Detroit drops off significantly after Datsyuk and Zetterberg. The Wings have better, more experienced defense. Goaltending is arguably even. Hasek is awesome... if he is healthy. Vokoun is very under-rated. That said, I'm not picking either of them. There is no way to know until one of them is going home to play golf this spring, and the other is take a shot at the Cup. Anything anyone says here is driven by bias.

Red Wings in 6, in exactly the same order of wins as the last Wings-Preds playoff matchup. All home wins until game 6. 1) Wings 2) Wings 3) Preds 4) Preds 5) Wings 6) Wings

Even though I am from Michigan, I have to say the Nashville Predators-Why? Let's begin with the 1-2 Goaltending punch of Tomas Vokoun & Chris Mason. D- Kimo Timmonen and not to mention the Scoring Punch of Paul Kariya, Peter Forsberg, Steve Sullivan, Martin Erat, Jason Arnott, J.P. Dumont. Sure Detroit is rather formidable, but Hasek is no longer the netminder he once was, grant it Lidstrom and Chelios are solid Blueliners, but without Holmstrom their Power Play is going to suffer. I would have to Pick Nashville to win 4-2 in a Playoff Series vs. Detroit.

Notable Nashville experinced players: Kariya, Arnott, Forsberg, Sullivan, Erat, Hartnell and Dumont.

Notable Detroit experinced players: Maltby, Draper, Holmstrom, Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Lang and Bertuzzi.

I say Nashville has the edge on forwards...

Detriot has a better experienced defense group. Led by Lidstrom, Schneider, Markov and Chelios.

Both teams has great goaltending, with Osgood being the worst of the four...

Both teams' (standings, home/road, powerplay) records are about identical with the Preds scoring about 20 more goals... and Wings allowing 10 less goals... Preds are top 5 in penalty killing.

Result... flip a coin... they are even...

The Wings have more players that are skilled and have more experience. The Preds are more gritty. I would take the Preds goalies over the Wings goalies any day. That said, I still think the Wings are a better team.

Hasek is the difference. Sorry Vokoun, but look at how bad the Czech Republic under achived at the Olympics when Hasek went down and you were called upon. Ouch!
