It is not slavery, per se, that has an impact on African Americans, but racism.

There seems to be more African American single mothers than in any other race and I think the breakdown in marriages and family relationships is reflective of slavery because during that time, slaves weren't allowed to marry traditionally. And those who did have husbands or wives were sold away, even their children too. The cure may be hard to come by, as many African Americans males, shun professional counseling.

Slavery itself doesn't have the impact but the mentality behind it does.

There are elderly black people still alive who remember stories from their grandparents and great grandparents about slavery and reconstruction.

There are still elderly white racists still alive passing down their poison.

So slavery itself an impact -- no, racism from the slavery mentality -- yes.

Yes - in some ways. It's traditions that are somewhat passed on from generation to generation. Coping mechanisms are passed on - and when you look at the black family in the context of slavery - you will see why Black people do certain things - a certain way. Here's a link to Joy DeGruy's book. I saw her at a speech and her work is interesting.

NO, slavery has no impact on contemporary African Americans

How could it? No one alive today was a slave. Hell, no one's parents or grandparents were slaves.
