I've just sold a diamond ring for 450 quid. The seller gave good communication however said they were having problems with their paypal account and therefore a friend has paid it for them through their paypal account. The address however is unconfirmed. The money is showing in my paypal account. Is it safe to post the ring now. am i protected? can they take the money back once i've sent the ring - if so how? Would it be safer to wait for the money to transfer to my bank account. Im scared im gonna get ripped off.
Any advice would be great. tell me if im panicking for no reason!

I would be very very careful here especially if the buyer contacts you and says he wants to collect. That happened to a friend of a friend. he sold mobile, buyer paid by paypal then asked if he cold come and collect the phone. Buyer collected the phone then told ebay/paypal that he never received the item and paypal then took the money out of the sellers account. I would refund the money and then ask buyer to send a cheque or transfer the money by other means. Ask ebay for their advice. However you get payment make sure you insure the item for postage and send by a proper carrier who will refund you in full if it goes missing. Interesting point is the value of the item when the buyer hasn't even seen it.

Transfer the money into your bank account and wait for a week or 2 before sending the item to make sure they did not pay with bad money because paypal can charge it back if it is fraudulent. Make sure you withdraw all the money from your paypal account so they cannot take it back if anything happens.

It is a high value item and sounds like they might be trying to pull something so don't send it just yet.

In addition to what others have said I would advise at least waiting for the money to transfer to your bank account. If the money is still in your PayPal account they can file a complaint and potentially get the money back.

Hi,
the money is safe, no worries about that.
Send the ring by recorded delivery , check on a G.P.S. if the address is real , call the phone book to make sure that the peoples live there

as long as it said that the money was cleared and the transaction complete you are fine as far as money is concerned. but shipping to an unconfirmed address is taking a chance. he can claim he never recieved the package so i would suggest you send it with a tracking number and maybe have signature required so he can not say that it did not arrive

I know you can refund money on paypal and I am almost 100% sure that once they have sent it you are safe. If they didn't have the money available it wouldn't have gone through paypal

Best bet is to wait, transfer the money to your bank account and then withdraw it and send the ring. If they try and take it back after you've sent the ring, sue them.

This sounds like a typical ploy from a scamster. Ask them to pay by bankers draft or into escrow and say you will not draw down the paypal payment.

I would contact the buyer again and ask them to confirm with you the correct postal address. once you have that i would send the item to that address but i would make sure it was sent by special delivery or recorded mail and keep the receipt.
