Do you have a Startup disc in a floppy ?
If not make one. keep it .
keep the Windows98. ( better to update in Windows Update site. ) last upd in July 2006.
Now start/run/sfc
Installing windows95 is a bad idea. 98 runs better and has more facilities.

yes, just simply reformat the hard drive and install win95. its not possible to simply insert the 95 disc and ask the computer to do the installation. this is not possible because the system, by default, selects the newest operating system, which in your case is windows98.
you will have to reformat and reinstall.

You could install UBUNTU or XUBUNTU. They are free, reliable and up to date operating systems. Once installed you gain access to thousands of programs created by the open source community.
