The explosives in a bullet can be detonated by a couple of means - mechanical force, i.e., being struck or heat. Electrical means may be considered, but what would really happen with an electrical discharge is that the heat from the discharge would be the initiator.

In the case of mechanical force, I doubt that your hand could restrain the bullet sufficiently such that a hammer or other device could impart enough energy to detonate the explosives. Perhaps you could squeeze the bullet in the jaws of some pliers, but then you wouldn't be holding the bullet; it would be in the jaws of the pliers (though still in close proximity to your hand)

In the case of heat, the casing of the bullet would most likely get too hot for you to hold before the explosive charge went off. Your best shot (no pun intended) here is to hit it with a laser with sufficient intensity to detonate the primer. The laser pulse would be short enough to keep the casing from heating up too much before the explosive detonated.

The short answer is no, a bullet is not going to go off in your hand. Not unless you take extraordinary measures to make it do so.

To red:
Hey dufus, a gun doesn't produce a "spark". There's a primer cap right in the bullet to do that. So maybe it's not likely that a bullet could explode just from using your hands on it, but if you held it in your hand and hit it against something hard you bet your rear end it could explode.

If the firing pin has been drivin in by some other means and while you were holding it it moved the pin enough to fire, then yes. Don't do anything like that. You will get injuries and burns! Watch Mythbusters instead, and then still don't do it home!

Unless your hand is as hot as the ignitions temp of gunpowder or you can apply a tremendous sudden impact like the actual hammer, I doubt it.

sure it can, try holding it with one hand and focusing the sun through a magnifying glass with the other, make sure you have on safety glasses, and only hold it with the two fingers you think you will need the least, cause it will blow your finger clean off. Have fun on your way to the emergency room

No. It needs a spark, this is produced by a gun.
Unless you found a way to ignite in your hand.

Though, I would'nt experiment with this.
