I'd like to hear from other women who have had an HSG. What was it like, how long does it last, and how painful was it? Also I have heard that your chances of getting pregnant after this is increased. Did anyone get pregnant in the cycle after the HSG?

You should take some kind of pain med first, it does not last long, just a few minutes. It is very uncomfortable, but not unbearable. I have also heard the chance of getting preggo is increased but not for me.

It is very uncomfortable, but it only lasts for a couple of minutes. Once the test was over, there was no more pain. Take some pain medication. Also, you will have something like a period for a day (as all the dye leaks out) and you cannot wear tampons. I didn't have any pads on me and had to use those huge ones you get out of the vending machines. Yuck!

I did get pg on the very next cycle. I also underwent insemination the next cycle and took injectible hormones, so it's really hard to say.

Basically you lie down on the table with your feet in stirrups just like an internal examination. They insert a speculum. Then they may have you tilt your pelvis or cough so that they can grab your cervix in some special clamps. Then they inject the dye and take everything out. You can see the dye on the TV screen, which is kind of cool. It's not that bad, trust me. You'll be fine.

I, too, had it done in a military hospital and I don't think it has anything to do with military medical care... I'm a big advocate of miltiary care, but that's a whole different story. I took Tylenol before and then afterwards, too. It is intense cramping while they are injecting the dye, but it's not for very long (maybe 30 seconds). After going through labor, that's the best way to describe the pains of contractions, so think of it as your future baby. Try to focus on the screen and see the dye go through or think of other things, like your husband or dog or mom. That helped me. I cramped for a few hours afterwards, but I was still able to go about my day. I felt great and back to normal that night. We didn't get pregnant the next cycle, it took another 6 months with the help of Clomid.

i had an HSG last tuesday.
This was very very very painful to me, but at the same time, I did not have a normal test. Sparring you all the details, they didn't have the right size speculum, cause apparently i have a longer vaginal canal, and they had to use these huge fish hooks things to lift and pull up on my cervix. I cried i think til 10pm that night. HOWEVER, that being said, the other parts of it that is normal to the test, the dilating the cervix, insertion of catheter, and contrast dispensing was not that bad. That felt a bit worse that my worst day of cramps, but tolerable. I would suggest starting to take extra strength Tyelnol, or whatever you take for cramps normally.
It was worth it to go through all that though, cause everything was fine with my test!!
Good Luck!!!

I took a couple of tylenols just before. to be honest...it didn't hurt...it was just more uncomfortable than anything. I'd compare it to a pap test. And there is a little cramping afterwards. Take along a pantyliner as you will bleed a little after. Some women get pregnant right away after because sometimes the dye pushes whatever is blocking away. I did not get pregnant right after, due to the fact my problem wasn't the blockage, it was the fact that I wasn't ovulating. I did get pregnant after using clomid. Relax...its not that bad of a test.

when I had my HSG, I felt fairly some soreness. I went in and did not take something to alleviate the soreness. I felt cramping in a while and my physician stated that i might want to bypass back to artwork, yet because my go back and forth is an hour each way, i wanting to stay homestead for something of the day. The cramping lasted for some days, besides the undeniable fact that it wasn't terrible (like menstrual cramps). My soreness threshold is very extreme so i wager it truly is why it did not damage as a lot as i presumed it might want to.

For me it hurt enough to cause tears in my eyes. I wasn't crying, but I did have tears. I had it done when I was in the military so it could have been worse based on the fact that it was military doctors. It caused cramping and that is what hurt. I recommend taking Tylenol before you go, I didn't take anything.

Your chance of pregnancy is increased because it clears out the fallopian tubes. For me it didn't work because I don't ovulate on my own so I have to take medication to induce ovulation.

Good luck!

Why do you bother?
are not enough children in the world?
You may never know if the child you bring will be evil or good or if it will be hurt or it will have a good life.
I mean if the child comes naturally, you may say, this was supposed to be, but if you try and try than it is your responsability
anyway, don't bother about me, I have a depression right now
sorry
