the ones who actually gave a damn about their job, so many find it hard to get through to students and feel underappreciated they get burned out really quickly. A great teacher will find a way to make class interesting and fun, while still being the adult and not 'just another kid', but do have have fun! just make sure you dont' lose respect. Creativity, not letting the book teach you. For fourth grade to get us into sciene about rocks we hosted a tv show as the rock personaltiy types (like metamorphic rocks were really unstable personalities) for english we were a newspaper staff and we would interview her, you get the idea, make it fun and don't give up on a problem kid.

A good teacher should care about their students and try to get to know them on an individualized basis so they can best meet each child's needs. Teaching goes beyond the school day, extending into caring about the student as a person. They would also build a positive classroom environment where every student feels valued, safe, and like they can contribute to the good of the whole. A good teacher earns the respect of his/her students. Lastly, my best teachers always presented material in an interesting way and tried to relate the material to us in a way we would understand and remember and always went out of their way to help.

I remember only 2 teachers.
One accused me and then tried and convicted me of something I didn't do.
I will remember her name for the rest of my life. I've remembered it for 60 years. I was 8 when this happened.
I wish I could say I forgave her, I don't think I ever did. The old gal is long gone and I don't miss her.
The other happened when I was 12.
the class just didn't catch on to fractions in math. She sat down in her chair and leaned back and said" Someday it is going to hit you what I've been trying to teach you , and you are going to say OH! now I get!
>>>>>>>>>And I did<<<<<<<<<<
But I loved that teacher because I know she really cared.

P.S. my oldest granddaughter is a math teacher......she takes after me! Her students LOVE her....Because she tries and she cares!

Teachers who are personable, compasionate, but makes you think about the materials. I had this one professor in the Astronomy class, who would spend time as much as she can to answer questions, but the assignments were pretty difficult and time consuming. I learned a lot about the materials on that class.

Someone who can engage their students and inspire them to learn. They are not always the "easiest" teachers either. They make you work, but not in a tedious way - the assignments are more pertinent to life experiences and you gain more from having had to complete the task. One of my favorite professors in college was hated by the rest of the class because he was "so hard". The fact of the matter was he was straight forward and didn't take any whining or b.s. from any of his students. He graded tough, but fairly. He inspired me to become a better student by expecting more out of me and not cutting me in slack - he empowered me to be in charge of my own education.

The teacher being able to understand that not all kids learn at the same pace and that maybe she needs to repeat the same thing over and over again with out getting upset. She has to be patient, understanding, and treat every kid as if they were her own.

The great teachers I remember could get you to learn. It wasn't like you were being forced to grasp this stuff. Plus you could talk to them like they were people, not just your teachers.

To me a teacher doesn't necessarily mean a smart person. To me you have to be able to explain things in a loving and caring and nice way.
