The wireless network is connected to an ISP. The ISP assigns an IP address to each computer as it signs on. This is called a Dynamic IP Address. When you log off the ISP will assign that IP to a new computer signing on.

Changing IP addresses will not protect you on an unsecured Wi-Fi network. Anyone with basic knowledge can access that Wi-Fi and see you information. Be sure you are using Encryption so all your data leaving your computer cannot be read by other.

DHCP, the protocol for dynamically assigning your IP address, often is configured to assign the same IP address for subsequent connections based on a "lease period". The length of the lease period depends on the configuration of the wireless router although you can try an "ipconfig /renew" from an MS DOS prompt to reset your IP address. I haven't seen that work though for assignment of IP addresses off my home router or the ones in my workplace. If you use the "ipconfig /all" command, you can see the lease obtain/expires date info.

If any logging is enabled on the wireless router, they can easily detect your MAC address too. Even if you expired the IP lease period, future connections will show up with the MAC address of your network card.

No.

When you log on to a wirless network, the router assigns a vanilla ip address to your computer. Usually 192.168.0.x, with 'x" being one through however many connections the router supports.

The external Ip address is only associate with your router and not your computer.

Any time you move your computer to a different type of internet connection, the Ip address will change.

Not sure by what you mean.

IP is determined by Where you connect.

Home, Office, and school IP's will all be different.

Unsecured wireless means that there is no encryption, and does not affect the IP usage.

I hope this helps !

no ... it will assign u one ... chances are high anyone could figure it out tho coz they are almost always sequentially assigned ... just use a firewall and dont worry about it .... maybe encrypt sensitive documents ... but unsecured refers to the network .. not ur pc ... if the network was secured u would need a key to get in it ...
