Picture u walk through a doorway (just a doorway, no door) with a wall running from the right side of the doorway u r walking through, to the wall in front of you. Immediately to your left is the side of the refrigerator. Now if you were standing in the doorway, and reached out your right hand to cut out an alcove.....that's what my washer/dryer are in. I cant to an accordian wall or a divider, because it would block the entrance to my kitchen. There are cabinates above my washerr/dryer, but the don't stick out to the end of them, so I can't hang anything from the cabinets. If I use a shower rod, the cabinets won't open. Ugh I have a real pickle here.

Why not mount a curtain from the ceiling? You could try one of those modern wire type curtain rods. HTH.

they make a metal line to hang curtains on, just attach that at the right height below the cabinets, but heigh enough to cover the washer and dryer and attach a curtain. the metal line would go into either side of the alcove.

Perhaps you could try a nice 'half door' across the doorway, 'shelved' on top...well half way up.
