Anyone know how to go about adopting a child without the outrageous fees?Every organization I have dealt with requires approx. 20 thousand dollars in fees.. Is there a cheaper way or any kind of financial help individuals can receive?

There are usually little or no fees when you adopt a child from the foster care system. You could contact your local agency.
You could try to find a birthmother on your own, but that can be a lot riskier and I'd really suggest adopting with the help of adoption professionals!
We have adopted internationally, and I know there are some adoption grants and loans available. Also, there is the $10,000 tax credit, and some businesses also offer an adoption re-embursement (with my husband's work it was $3,000)
Good luck to you!

Foster/Adopt is a program that would not require the amount of money you are referring to. You would first need to qualify to be a foster parent, but there are tons of children in the program who need families, and you are able to adopt through the foster care program. You would want to call your local child services program for more information.

Good luck!

I adopted 2 children through the state agency and paid only court costs, about $35 each, to file the adoption papers. I filed the paperwork myself so did not need a lawyer. the agency helped me word everything correctly so it was all legal. check with your Department of Children and Families to see if you can do it, too. good luck!

We are in the middle of an adoption ourselves...Yes it is really expensive...

But the government offers a tax credit of up to $10,000 which does offset a good deal of the expenses.....
