I'm in the third trimester of my second pregnancy. With my first (a boy), I had a very pronounced linea negra, as well as hyperpigmentation on my neck and armpits. It all went away about 3 months after giving birth.

Now, I'm pregnant with a girl, but I have no linea negra or hyperpigmentation.

Anyone have a theory?

My midwife noticed at my appointment on Tuesday that I am starting to develop mine. I am 16 weeks pregnant
In my book it states that not all pregnancies will develop the linea nigra. People with darker complexions have less of a chance of developing one than lighter complected women.
The linea nigra is an increase in the amount of melanin that your body naturally creates and forms from a line that we already have called the linea alba

Not sure, I think it's different for each person and each pregnancy. I doubt it's anything to do with the boy/girl thing, as I was the opposite!

I had no linea negra or hyperpigmantation at all with my first, who was a boy. I'm currently 31 weeks pregnant with a girl and I have a very slight linea negra even though I'm a very light blonde, and I have hyperpigmentation on my right cheek, a really odd mark like a birthmark, I also have smaller marks all down my left arm...

Really don't know, but congrats!!

I didn't get linea negra or obvious hyperpigmentation with my first pregnancy (a boy), although my (very pale) face has been a shade darker ever since due to sun damage during that pregnancy.

I'm 15 weeks pregnant now with my second, but the baby kept its gender a secret during the ultrasound, so I can't compare boy vs. girl pregnancies.

Didn't have a linea negra with my twins or hyperpigmentation, and don't have either yet with this pregnancy. It goes back to that "every pregnancy is different" thing. Best of luck to you.

I'm 28.5 weeks with a girl and I have no linea negra. My belly button hasn't popped out yet either, and I have no stretch marks on my belly (but I have tons on my butt, boobs, and lovehandles)...

I think it's just an every pregnancy is different...

Mine went away when my kids were between 4 and 7 months. It depends really on your skin tone, how dark it came in, and how long it's been since you gave birth. If you're very fair skinned and it came in dark, it may fade but never actually disappear. If you have medium to dark skin and it came in light, med. or dark, it will either go away completely or fade to where it's (almost) unnoticeable.

Well with my first I definitely had a very noticable one(pregnant with girl)
I am now 27 weeks pregnant with second and have just looked and there is nothing there! (this ones a boy)
So I don't think sex has anything to do with it.

Didn't get it with any. But of course every pregnancy is different. Theory- just something to puzzle over. Enjoy.

I had one boy and one girl. I did not get that with either one. I was also not sick at all for either one. I really was lucky.
