Now that Captain America is dead, presumably for good, do you think it's worthwhile for me to dig up my stack of Captain America comics from the 80's?

Most of them are in mint or near mint condition.

yes! Honestly right now is the best time since even the non comic reading public knows of Caps death... or supposed death. Now or when this apparent movie is coming out.

I have a feeling Marvel is selling their soul just a little more and they're going to bring cap back after the movie is released to try to up comic sales with the movie.. yeah...

But anyways about your question.. yes they will be worth money esp if they are mint.

I go to a site called milehighcomics.com to price check mine but i dont know if they have the cap death put into the equation yet. you can go to your local stores and or ebay. good luck

Steve Rogers being dead will not affect the price of your Captain Americas from the 80's, either positively or negatively. I don't recall any superstar writer/artist teams who worked on the book at the time, so it may be up to the individual storylines that may give your comics value. Two story arcs from around that time come to mind:

When Steve Rogers quit as Captain America so as not to be answerable to a single administration. He instead created a new identity for himself, simply The Captain. Actually this arc kind of seems like a prelude to Civil War.

Also was when the super soldier serum began to break down Steve's systems and he had to have it extracted from his body. Sort of an analogy to the dangers of steroid use.

On a long enough timeline, all comics go up in value. I say hold onto them and make sure they're properly sealed in the plastic magazine sleeves, and sort them out according to series, issue number and condition. Give them a good read too, the 80s might not have been the golden age, but I have some fond memories of the storylines back then.

You might also want to check ebay. They're now responsible for most auctions now.

I'd buy a Wizard magazine and check out their prices. It just depends on what was going on with the Cap 20 years ago. If a significant character was introduced or there was a small printing then the comics will be worth more. Good luck.

Don't know now kids can play captain America in a video game,

I have an Iron Man No. 1 but could sell it for anything near its value so I still have it.

From the 80's? Not much over a couple of bucks each. Keep em for later.

GOLDEN RULE WITH COLLECTIBLES:

They are only worth what someone will actually pay you for them. Not necessarily what a 'price guide' says.

Contrary to popular belief, 20 year-old comic books aren't worth much. In fact, any comic book is only worth what someone is willing to give you for it.
