8v + 2 = 4v + 8

8v + 2 - 4v = 4v + 8 - 4v

4v + 2 = 8

4v + 2 - 2 = 8 - 2

4v = 6

4v/4 = 6/4

v = 6 / 4

v = 1 2/4

v = 1 1/2

v = 1.5

If I tell you, how will you know? After all, I make mistakes. Instead, I will show you.

Subtract 4v from both sides to get rid of the v term from one side. Now subtract 2 from both sides to get rid of constant terms (plain numbers) from the other side. You should get something like _v = _. Whatever fills the first blank, that's what you should divide the equation by.

And by the way, if you don't mind a friendly suggestion, it turns out that the answer is not a whole number, so maybe you copied the problem down wrong?

none

8v+2 = 4v +8
8v - 4v = 8 - 2
4v = 6
v = 6/4 = 3/2

again isolate the v's on one side and the constants on the other
8v-4v = 4v
8-2 = 6

answer 6/4
