Is it possible to strain your foot? I'm curious because the bottom of my foot is real sore. I played hoops a few days ago, but don't remember injuring anything. I can barely put weight on it, making it tough to walk. This is the 2nd time this has happened.

There are four layers of muscles on the bottom of the foot containing nine muscles and many tendons and nerves. Do not search the web trying to diagnose your condition, you will invariably end up inadequately treating yourself. Go to the doctor before this recurring acute injury becomes chronic.

Yes, there are many small muscles in the foot. Most likely, though, you have strained one of the many ligaments that make the foot work. Also, sometimes you can break one of the small bones that make up the foot. I had a sore foot for many days once then the pain went away only to return many months later. My foot was so sore that I could not put weight on it. Then , incidently, I was in the emergency room with my husband who had went there to get a nail removed from his foot that had gone up through his foot so we could not reach it. They gave him a tetanus shot after removing the nail. He told the E.R. doctor about my sore foot and the doctor looked at it and ordered an x-ray of it. I found out that I had broken a small bone near the arch of my foot the first time it had hurt and then it had healed over partially but not inline as it should have been. The second bout of pain was from the bone getting rebroken just by my walking a lot on it. (My family hikes a lot.) I was put in a walking foot cast and told to stay off of it for 4-6 weeks and to return to my doctor to have it checked in 4 weeks. After 4 weeks, my doctor ex-rayed it again and it had healed properly so the I nolonger needed the cast. I had not fallen or twisted my foot at either time. The doctor said you can break these fragile bones just by landing hard on the foot. I have had no problems with the foot since. Any time you have pain in your foot after a hike or playing basketball or even just stepping down a step hard and it does not go away in a day or so, it is wise to seek medical attention. It can save you more pain in the future and more expense as well.

It might be a case of PLANTAR FASCIITIS (feel free to google search this diagnosis). With chronic pounding of the feet on hard surfaces like concrete, the protective padding of your feet can get really painful and swollen, causing pain when you walk. Be sure to ice the bottoms of your feet where it hurts. You might want to investigate with a healthcare person about the height of your foot arches. People with really flat feet and athletic lifestyles easily get plantar fasciitis. Article attached below:

Your foot does have muscles and it is possible to strain it. I've done it myself a few times.
