My daughter is 4 months old and she's been having a bad cough for the past week which seems to be getting worse. I've been using a vaporizer in her room that doesn't seem to be working. We just found out yesterday that my nephew, who lives with us, has pneumonia and now i'm wondering if that is what she is catching. She has a doctor's appointment tomorrow but in the meanwhile I would like to know whether or not she can catch it.

Pneumonia is a symptom rather than a specific disease, however certain viruses and bacteria are more likely to cause pneumonia and of cource all bacteria and viruses are contagious in some form or another.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pneumonia
Pneumonia is an illness of the lungs and respiratory system in which the alveoli (microscopic air-filled sacs of the lung responsible for absorbing oxygen from the atmosphere) become inflamed and flooded with fluid. Pneumonia can result from a variety of causes, including infection with bacteria, viruses, fungi, or parasites. Pneumonia may also occur from chemical or physical injury to the lungs, or indirectly due to another medical illness, such as lung cancer or alcohol abuse.

it is contagious for each individual. Pneumonia is composed of viruses which as all of us be attentive to could be transmitted by skill of an contaminated individual coughing or sneezing on a individual, sharing eating glasses and utensils, and/or whilst a individual touches used tissues of an contaminated individual.

Pneumonia in itself is not contagious but the illnesses that can cause it are.

My daughter had RSV and pneumonia at that age.

Call your pediatrician NOW, don't wait until tomorrow.
