I am in need of a printer for my new laptop but don't know where to start. I am printing a lot of papers from school and some are in color too. Is there a brand that's reliable and the ink is not so expensive?

we recommend canon. i'm a student and i use one. if you do go canon though, get one with individual tank-stayle cartridges, not the newer ones where they've switched to crappy printhead cartridges. canon's ink is generally the cheapest per milliliter. and they work excellently, too :)

When you are evaluating printers, your first consideration should be the cost of the ink. My cartridge costs are forty pence, against the manufacturers six pounds fifty (ok, so its UK pricing, hope you get the idea....note, also, that i do not refil my carts, in fact, have not touched them for the last 15 months..and have printed 500+photo's.
The secret is "Continuous Ink Supply System" this can be set up on alot of Epson & Canon printers. What you do is to use Continuos Ink Supply System as a search term, see what printers you can use system on, then decide what printer you want.
Heres a link...uk site, but just to give you an idea....

If you pay a bit more for it you can get one of the HPs that take the big ink cartridges and you will save so much money. I have a 940C but it is a couple of years old. Just get the equivilent model that's out now. My old HP lasted for years and I'm sure this one will too. Wal-Mart only carries the small ink cart. printers but some of the office supply places have them and I think they might be just over $100. Good Luck and God Bless

Epson, I bought one 3 years ago (all in one) and still running and bought another one last year (cd printing) and my father in law has bought 2 also (all in one & cd printer) my aunt bought one for printing pictures off her digital camera and none of us have had problems. My friend in the same amount of time has gone through 2 Lexmarks and now has a HP but it cost him $60 for ink.If you go to epson.com and find one in the refurbished section they have the same 1 yr warranty as a new one and has free shipping and you can get the ink real cheap at bigsavemart.com for about $3.50 a cartridge (4-8 cartridges per printer )thats cheaper than ink island refilling them in the mall $8/cartirdge!!!
