It's my understanding that Bush's tax cuts in many respects only helped wealthy people in that the cut was so small, only wealthy people would have been helped -- as poor people don't have to pay income tax anyway. How do conservatives respond to this?

Okay, I see where some of you are going, but Bush only cut taxes a few percentage points, something like 29 to 27 percent. Sure it helps middle class folk, but in relative terms it was so small that it mainly helped the rich. If I make 60 grand a year and save a grand that's great. But in the grand scheme of things, someone making a million dollars a year is going to benifit more. In other words, the cut was so slight it did help middle class folks a little bit. But not really enough to make a difference. As far as the idea that it allows rich people to spend more, this is a whole other topic. Spending more does not always help the economy per se. The govt. cutting taxes so that the rich can buy another plasma tv doesn't sit well with me. Besides, those "toys" that someone mentioned are not even made in America for the most part! So it's not helping us anyway.

The constituency that the Dems are shooting for do not pay taxes, so the Dems assertion that only the rich (ie anyone who makes more than their target audience) is true (sort of).
How can you get a tax refund/cut if you don't pay taxes?
You also want to look at what real people consider "rich" and what the Dems consider "rich". The Dems consider a household with a combined income over $50,000 to be wealthy. Real life (and anyone over 30 reading this will agree) costs alot, that amount of money isn't going to go very far. So what the tax cuts really did was benefit just about everybody who's got a job.
The question I would ask you, how many poor people have you known to own businesses and create jobs?

They do more often than not want the prosperous, in truth in accordance to the republicans own estimate permitting the tax cuts to expire will boost taxes universal by technique of three trillion money over the subsequent 10 years - and so as that they talk about that 800 billion of that boost will be for the middle and reduce classification. Or in different words in accordance to them seventy 3 % of Bush's tax cuts don't have any impression on decrease middle classification voters. So its now to not say the cuts do not impression middle classification tax payers in any respect, only in an particularly small way and heavily favoring more suitable or less 5 % of the U. S. inhabitants.

First, I am poor, and conservative. Now, let's pop a few balloons: Not all conservatives are rich, not all Liberals/Democrats are poor(i.e. Ted Kennedy, Algore, and John Kerry). If liberals are so concerned about the poor they can give me their money. Now, balloon two: Who benefits from tax cuts??Well, yeah the rich. Who owns the businesses which employ the poor? The RICH. I haven't seen a poor person yet who owned a business. Have you? If the rich have more money what are they gonna do? Yeah, buy all kind of expensive toys? Maybe, but someone has to make that stuff. Right? Who makes that stuff? The rich? No, they hire the poor to make that stuff. Okay, now when the rich buy something they still pay sales tax, right? and who gets that money, or the benefit from sale tax? States and local municipalities, right? Okay, with me so far? Okay, so if the rich has more money they spend more money, Now, if you'd LIKE to pay higher taxes be my guest. I don't, but then the poor don't pay taxes remember?

OK under Clinton I was making 45,000 a year and was paying 23% tax via my income tax return.
under Bush for 06 i made 70,000 and my tax rate was 17% on my tax return.
Now that's a nice break if you ask me and I sure as hell am not rich.

You're precisely right. If you don't pay taxes anyway, how can you get a tax cut? The poor in this country live like kings when compared to people in other countries.

it was an across the board tax cut...using an example..these are not the real numbers....say the cut was 10%
If you paid in taxes
5,000......................you saved 500
20,000...................you saved 2000
100,000..................you saved 10,000
1,000,000 .........you saved 100,000
the wanna be Robin Hoods believe that the full burden of taxes should fall to the "rich"...which by the way they believe starts at 49,999
they object to the fact that those that paid more saved more...
