In July, one year after my nephew was killed by his mother while driving under the influence of drugs, I want to put a billboard up in the town where it occured. I want the billboard to read:

ATW (name of nephew)

VICTIM OF CARELESSNESS

DIED JULY 24, 2006

Do you think I will be breaking any laws?

Was she convicted? If so, no.

Why don't you just be more direct and say "Killed by his own mother who was under the influence of drugs"?

Being passive aggressive doesn't really drive the point home.

sorry for your loss.

If a billboard does not already exist in the location you want to put it, I would think you would need to check with the Zoning Committee for that area. If it is OK-ed by them you'll have to find a billboard company from which you could rent.
From the way you have stated your wording on the said billboard, it doesn't sound as though you would be breaking any laws. There again check with the billboard company since they should be more knowledgeable about what is and isn't allowed.
I think your purpose of doing this is noble and might help some people "wake up".
On the other hand, how is this going to affect your aunt? If she is any kind of decent mother, I'm sure she has to live with the knowledge of the atrocity she caused every day of her life. Only you can answer that question.

I don't think it would be breaking any laws. It might be a good thing and start a new trend.

I lived in Georgia for 5 years and I saw so much of this kind of thing going on like the guy that got drunk at (what was then) Pony Tails strip club just north of Atlanta and drove north in the south bound lane for about 15 miles. He hit several cars and killed an entire family with a little baby in the care. The only good thing about it was it was 2 or 3am so there weren't that many cars on the highway.

Put up your billboard, I think it's a great idea.

Not that I know of. But when you pay for the bill board you can ask what you are allowed to put up.
