I am thinking about building a Spanish style house with a stucco exterior. I live in Virginia, is stucco durable against moisture?

Stucco is very weatherproof as long as it remains intact and has no cracks. Cracks allow water penetration, resulting in spalling of the surface if you live in a freezing climate. Existing stucco can be pressure cleaned, then coated with a liquid silicone waterproofing if you so desire.

as long as you have a good installer doing the work, it should be fine and stand up to the elements
