Am I still on the payroll somewhere but as having not recieved any hours of work? How does this work, I really don't know?

If you were told that you were laid off then you are no longer an employee. Did they tell you that you would have rights to a recall if business improved and they can put you back to work? If so then you would have to be rehired to the company at that time.

Either way you are not still on their books as an active employee, you would show as a former employee or ex-employee.

No, laid off means "fired." This could be for multiple different reasons but it's the same as not having a job.

You no longer are on payroll and you aren't going to be receiving hours. That means no money. So you may want to consider starting a job hunt.

You were not laid off, but FIRED! Laid off is just a polite term for FIRED!

Nope...Laid off is just the nice word they use to say "You're fired"

You are fired, unemployed, jobless, between roles, workless, on the dole, on the parish, looking for opportunities or any other term you can think of.

you are not a permanent part of the staff rather you are a seasonal temporary worker with no benefits.
some companies do not fire you the just do not have work for you.
