More often than not, I'm very curtious while I'm driving. I'm the kind of guy that will have a bazillion cars behind me, and if I see that you are attempting to merge into traffic, I'll let you. :) Yesterday wasn't the case. I was having a not so good day. There was this lady trying to merge, she kept looking at me, so I looked away. Then finally she honked her horn which made me more irritated. Finally I caved in and let her merge with the rest of traffic. Afterwards I felt pretty awful because I let a minor thing rattle my nerves. :( But normally I try to be curtious to other drivers. :) Comments?

I'm with you - I generally act very courteous towards other drivers, with the exception of the ones who have a false sense of entitlement - you know the ones.

They are usually driving cars or SUV's that cost ten times as much as mine, and they think that the rules of the road don't actually apply to them.

I love it when one gets up on my bumper (I usually drive fast anyway, so about the only time this happens is when there is a line of cars in front of me) I will continue to slow down, and if they try to change lanes, I will ease over into their way just to drive them nuts.

I had a guy ready to strangle the living sh** out of me one time for doing that. He pulled up next to me and started spewing a steady stream of expletives. What I did next REALLY ticked him off though. I smiled and waved at him. (You would've thought I had forced him to watch me rape his mother or something). Fortunately just then he almost slammed into semi-tractor trailer that he didn't notice because he was too focused on me.

It's easy to get upset while driving, and I do from time to time. It usually requires someone to be especially retarted though. Like the guy who cuts across three lanes and nearly wipes me out on my motorcycle. Or the woman who gets on the interstate and just keeps getting over - and the only thing you can see is her hand holding her cell phone.

I have my days where I am really nice, and relaxed. Those are the days that I don't really have any place I have to be at a specific time. I drive the speed limit, get over very quick to the slow lane, if someone wants to go faster than me. Always use my signals, check my mirrors. In hence I am a "perfect" driver.

When I have some place I have to be, I get very irritated and tend to do quick maneuvers, will squeeze into lanes where the person has to slow down. Sometimes I can be a horrible driver. I will get my car centimeters of you, if you wont let me merge, I will make someone give me space.

However what frustrates me more than anything on the road, are those people who drive UNDER the speed limit, who are overly cautious. Turn there blinker on, and take 8 seconds to decide to preform the maneuver. People who decide to perform another task while at a red light, and are stopped at a red light for several seconds, sometimes causing people who would otherwise get through, to wait.

Also people who are afraid to pass on an obviously clear 1 lane highway, when a truck is going 20miles under the posted 55.

Usually older, or inexperienced drivers.

Perhaps I just drive too much, I used to be a vendor for a large company. Had to drive 60+ miles to work every day and back. I also drive 800 miles to and from my parents house quite often.

Well, being courteous is always nice, but the way that lady honking at you, I wouldn't have let her merge with the traffic.
To often most people uses cell phone while they are driving and not pay attention and they miss an exit or they get into the wrong lane. And when they realized that they have done this instead of turning around at the next exit or merging into traffic safely they, they ignore traffic law and put every one in danger, specially if she is already pissed off like that.
So, next time if you are haveing a bad day, don't let them push you around, it is not your fault that people don't pay attention on the road.

When you get as old as I am, you start driving differently. I hate to admit it, but it's the ugly truth. Twenty years ago, I drove like a maniac, and it was great. Give me the finger or cut me off? I'm in no hurry, I've got plenty of time to follow your suicidal butt to your destination and make you extremely nervous. Now? I sigh and think "some people's kids" and take another hit off my bottle of pure spring water, wondering idly why tap water isn't good enough for me anymore, while I turn up Snow Patrol on the radio. I know, you're only as young as you feel. I still feel young, I've just umm.... mellowed a bit I guess :).

I know exactly what you mean. It's tough to ALWAYS be nice to people, especially when it seems that everybody else can be rude. However, remember that the best reason for being courteous is safety - both your own, and that of others. Courteous drivers who keep their minds on what they're doing are far less likely to be involved in accidents, and that's really what it's all about.

Sometime I get tired of being nice to people when I drive. I drive the same way as you and it really irrates me when I have to merge and no one let's me. I feel for you.

All the time. But I have something I call the "fifty-year rule"... before I lose my cool, I ask myself:

Is this going to MATTER to me in fifty years?

If the answer is no, I just go on about my business. ;)
