I received a Jenny Lind Baby cradle as a shower present and i'm unsure if I need to purchase a matress or do I just use the pad included. This is my first child and i'm so lost it doesn't make any sense. To make matters worse the person I got the cradle from doesn't even know the answer herself.

If it has a pad in it, then that is all you need.

Use the pad. I doubt a crib mattress would fit in the cradle. You can buy cradle sheets anywhere that sells baby stuff.

It could be the difference in mattress quality, wood type, or the finish quality of the crib. When looking at a crib, pay attention to how it is assembled. Many cribs have a very weak(cheap) fastening system, and they will get loose and allow the crib to get wobbly. Once the child is able to stand, they will shake the hello out that crib. Jumping, bouncing and falling over in it will test its strength. Make sure that the lowest setting on the mattress level is low enough to be safe for a bouncy 18 month toddler.

The pad included is the mattress for it. It is probably not very thick- this is a safety feature. Baby will be comfortable. I used King size pillow cases for a sheet-- that is what they use in the maternity ward where I worked. Quick change and inexpensive.

I don't have one but I looked at them when I was pregnant. I'm pretty sure the pad that is in there is the one you use. I don't believe there is another mattress to put in there. Call the manufacturer if you still aren't certain.
