My central heating has started to NOT come on when I want it to but instead it will come on later than planned and there is nothing I can do to change it. Sometimes it will not come on at all then all of a sudden whooosh it's on and warming up nicely. Frustrating it really is!
Any ideas on what could be causing this?

It would be helpful to know what kind of heating system you have and what kind of thermostat. For example, heat pump systems and related thermostats can lock out the system from starting too soon after being turned off.
