I would say that the most common form of "political correctness" these days are the following:
- It is politically incorrect to say "Happy Holidays". You have to say Merry Christmas or you are going to be stoned to death or something.
- It is politically incorrect to call a civil war a "civil war". You have to call it "secretarian violence" or you are not being politically correct.
- It's politically incorrect to question why we are sending troops to fight and die in Iraq. You are most likely a terrorist if you do.
-It's politically incorrect to call people who attack our military enemy combatants. You have to call them terrorists.
You are right that political correctness has really gotten out of hand. But, it is exactly the opposite of what you think. It is way too much to the side of blindly trusting the police, the NSA, the President, etc.

Of course, the idea of political correctness is to stop all debate on issues that concern the majority of the public. Personally if any one uses the race or any other PC card in a debate, for me they have already lost and might as well leave. The whole thing stifles reasoned debate.

Yes indeed.! Political Correctness, derived from an essentially well-intentioned "Code of Conduct," has become an instrument of moralistic terror.! The self-appointed "politically correct" think of themselves as the sole possessors of the truth, and refuse anyone else the right to differ. When one attempts to deal with any of these themes, even in the most open-minded way, one is beaten down unmercifully with the "fascism club." Whenever, by means of this deadly method of argument, someone is successfully labeled a racist, fascist or sexist, he is degraded to the status of a leper, with no further opportunity to present his view.

Yes, political correctness has been blown way out of proportion. People claim many things in the name of political correctness. These days it's hard to do anything for fear of offending someone.
If we were all politically correct then there would be no need for "political correctness". We should all just love and respect one another regardless of race, colour or religion.

Yes, absolutely. The only way to fight this is not to play along. Speak your mind, and do the right think and leave the PC nuts scream and cry. Eventually they would go away.
