My doctor always asks me how much the baby is moving, and more importantly, are there any changes in the amount of movement i notice. If your doctor is not concerned, you are probably OK. I am in a high risk pregnancy, so i get hooked up to fetal monitors and/or have an ultrasound every week now. They are looking for fetal movement. Some days the baby moves a lot when hooked up. Other days i don't feel anything, but the monitors and u/s show constant movement. One of the nurses told me to count movements 3 times a day......after eating each meal. I should feel 4-6 movements in an hour. Oh, and she also told me that there are periods of time when the baby is sleeping in our tummies, so they don't move so much then. Hope this helps.

I have wondered this same thing. I am almost 26 weeks and all the websites i see say the same thing that i should be feeling the baby move like ten times in an hour. Ten times an hour! My baby might move about ten times a day, if that. Like you, i go through a couple of active periods during the day when i might feel the baby move 5 or six times and then i don't feel much of anyhting. Don't worry, i think we are both fine. Some babies just arent as active as others. Maybe those moms who feel there baby move 10 times an hour just have really active kids.

Im 29 weeks today and having the same, although she has been a litle moreactive over the last few days, still nowhere near 10 times an hour. As long as u are feeling her a couple of times every 4 hours or so, I wouldn,t worry! I was told that if u don't feel her all morning at all, then by lunchtime call doc!
Good luck

Doctors usually tell you to go by what is normal for your baby. the 10 times an hour is if you are laying down with your hands on your belly, the baby should have at least 10 natural sleeping or 10 active movements every 2 hours.

My doc said 10 kicks in 2 hours, and after 10 I can stop counting. I'm 34 weeks and only feel my baby move every now and then a couple times, then she's back to sleep I assume. As long as you are feeling him move throughout the day I wouldn't worry, but if you go a long while without him moving you might want to call the doc just to be sure everything is ok :)

That site is correct, but it's talking about later on in the last 8 weeks. Although my little one was never all that active, I always felt 10 movements an hour towards the end. A lot you dont notice because you are walking around or doing something, but if you lay down for a little bit you'll notice it a lot more.

We have information regarding this, plus we have a 28/29 wk HIGH risk pregnant mom on the board right now with her 7th pregnancy - she is not feeling as much activity either, so this is a GREAT topic on our board...you can come join in our discussion for free if you so choose.
Ok... so I am actually at the "kick counting" stage right now... and here's what my doctors (perinatologist, high risk specialists) have to say about counting kicks,
1. It is EXTREMELY important (I personally can't stress this enough, because I had a still birth and the classic signs of not enough kicks in a certian amount of time were there... unfortunatly I wasn't seeing a good enough doctor that took me seriously)
2. You should begin counting kicks around your 28th week (babys are just too unpredictable before that point and can often kick into fluid and you won't feel as much... so you'll just drive yourself nuts before this point)
.....how do they read non-stress tests?
This is part of her post on the site, plus a lot more information and tips on how to find it best.

At 29 weeks they are getting a little more cramped in that tiny space. If you feel movement, at least once a day, then you are good to go. Doctors always want those "kick counts" but it can also depend on what you ate that day as well. If you've had caffeine, spicy foods, or anything w/ high sugar that can make a difference. As long as you are feeling movement then everything is ok. If you go over two days and you feel nothing then contact your doc immediately or go to Labor and Delivery at your hospital.

I'm 20 1/2 weeks & there are days where I don't feel her at all, like today. It depends on how active you are....If you're active then baby might be tired. Plus maybe baby is moving that much, but it's still more of a tickle or a flutter so it feels like 1 movement.

I had a similar problem although i am only 25weeks my little girl has been very active for the past 3 weeks and suddenly i felt very little movement for 2days, so i went into the hospital where they listened for her heartbeat and all was fine. They gave me a sheet called a kick chart where i have to monitor her movement from 9am to 9pm everyday - the midwive told me that 10movements per day not per hour before 9pm is normal. If any less then i was to contact them again.
