Yes!
I have a son who is 21. He's been playing hockey since he was nine. It's given him such confidence, and he's made lifelong friends! I don't know how old your son is, but talk to his coaches, and ask about hockey camps. They're all over the country. I think it would be a mistake not to let him do something he really wants to do. I've raised four sons, so I've got a little experience. Please let him play! if you want to talk further, please e-mail me at goaleygal@yahoo.com

If its only safety that your worried about then you should go ahead with it. If he starts off in a local house league he should have nothing to worry about, thats what all those pads are for. But you need to realize that ice hockey is a very expensive sport, and the higher level your son goes the more its going to cost, so do a little research on equipment costs and league fees to make sure you can afford it before you commit to it.

I agree with the other posters. Hockey is dangerous, but not even close to riding in a car. Let him play, he will learn how to socialize and work in a team. He will also grow in strength and coordination and the exercise will be better for him health wise than not playing. Another advantage to hockey is that you can use it as a tool to teach him anger management, the right way to deal with it and the wrong way. Teach him how to use it to play better instead of fighting. I think the benefits far outweigh the risks.

well hockey is a really rough sport and chances are he will get into fights on the ice and get b****ed around by his teammates being hes not experienced. if he can take that kind of abuse n shrug it off its a good sport for him, if hes a little cry baby when it comes to that then hockeys probably not right for him. the sport in general, yeah its dangerous but so are many other sports that you would never thing are dangerous.

Driving in a car is dangerous, walking across the street is dangerous, playing a sport is dangerous. Ice hockey probably isn't even as dangerous as football. You're going to say no to a sport your kid wants to play? Let him play, it'll be beneficial in so many ways, so what if he gets a black eye or bruised knees?
