It seems that some of the "questions" that are posted tongue-in-cheek are taken way too seriously and not just by the heterosexual community but also by some of our gay brothers and sisters. So the question really is: is it important or at least preferable that we be able to laugh at ourselves from time-to-time?

and look what they are missing out on....

Modern neurophysiology states that laughter is linked with the activation of the ventromedial prefrontal cortex, which produces endorphins after a rewarding activity: after you have a good meal, after you have sexual intercourse and after you understand a joke.

full tummy=sex=laughter

they are all the same!

Well, I feel that a sense of humor is a requirement. I am one who probably doesn't take things seriously enough at times. But I prefer people who are not always serious, but know how to be serious when the time is right.

I have found it pretty funny when a tongue-in-cheek question is taken way too seriously. But I don't have much tolerance for the opposite case, when someone asks a serious question and is given a sarcastic response. That is too Ann Coulter-like behavior for me!

BTW -- tongue-in-cheek? Now I have THAT image stuck in my mind!!!!

In order to make in the world I think as a gay man I'd have an ulcer if I wasn't able to laugh stuff off. Not that I run into homophobic BS all the time, but those times I do I know enough to consider the source. And the source is always some hetero-loser who think way too much of themselves.

Now, that being said, I promise to never laugh at you, but I will laugh with you.

Being able to laugh at yourself is always an attribute we should have. It will keep you from getting ulcers and keeps the serious stuff in perspective. When you consider the alternative, anger or resentment, you should be able to plainly see you will be a lot better off with a sense of humor rather than being just as bigoted as many of the people that attack the gay and lesbian community. There are way to many people out there that are real quick to throw stones at others before they examine themselves!

i think of sitting down and chatting along with her heavily is in all probability your terrific, maximum rational selection. I kinda have this subject, yet from a various attitude. My relatives (catholic) is confident i'm a lesbian, which i'm, yet i'm not waiting to return out yet so i don't prefer them to be responsive to. your terrific selection is to do something humorous, yet smart sufficient that your mum will understand which you at the instant are not a lesbian. How approximately looking up porn and "by risk" leaving it on whilst your mum comes into the room?

Having a sense of humor is a character trait EVERYONE should have no matter the sexuality. But i will say that we the LGBT do need tougher skin than most others & a great sense of humor to go along with it is wonderful. But along with that, we also need the wisdom to know when something is NOT funny but truly is disrespectful.

Well, I think it helps a lot.
Also, to have a thick skin against the anti-LGBT hate preaching of some bigoted, hypocritical "christians."

Unfortunately, few of the questions posted "tongue-in-cheek" are written well enough to be readily identifiable as such. The user "I Wish I Knew That" is a notable exception.

For clarity, I wish people who post such questions would include a :o) or "he said sarcastically."

Absolutely correct, that said however, we must remember that humour is both subjective and tricky to master. I like a good piece of satire or sarcasm but the tongue must be so firmly planted in the cheek so as to be seen as such.

Some who try fail so miserably that they end being inundated with churlish responses.

By all means make me laugh, but do so with style, irreverence and with panache.

P.S. I know your stuff so you aren't one of the ones who fails :)

I love funny questions that people post not only in this section, but in all of Y!A?. I hate it when people take a question that's obviously meant to be a joke to lighten the mood around here, and turn it into this whole big thing. It's completely ridiculous.

Just imagine how boring life would be if we didn't laugh, I don't think I could hang around someone if they didn't have a good sense of humor. If you can't laugh at yourself then you wouldn't be able to laugh at others

Well... I suppose when you get down to it... we are really only different by orientation and that doesn't include sense of humor. Of course we enjoy a good sense of humor. I laugh at all of the foolish abuse that we get in this section, it's really quite funny and very fun to make fools of them.
