I have a batch file which is used to do a few maintenance jobs on my computer, which is usually run unattended at night, and I need to know if there is a way to close the computer down when the job is completed

You can do that. Include the shut down command as the last thing in your batch stream.

You can call a simple program from a DOS command that will do this. Look at psshutdown in the link below. It has a lot of options.

Yes, you can use the "shutdown" command:

shutdown -s
That will shut down the PC.
