I don't plan on dropping into a volcano, but there's got to be some science on it.

It depends on whether the volcano is active or not. I have been to the top of Mt. St.Helens while it was not erupting and there was no risk of me dying anytime in the near future. I would say though, if the thing were erupting and you were pushed into the vent of the volcano where it was actually spewing lava or ash that you would die within minutes if not seconds. But there are some who have survived being on top of a volcano while it was erupting. If you want to hear about from someone who survived, read Surviving Galeras by Stanley Williams.

It is about a group of scientists who went up to the crater of the volcano to study it and it erupted while they were up there. He survived and I am not quite sure who else survived. It was an interesting read.

It would not take very long. In Ecuador with a geologist who was looking at the Creator Reventador , a very deep volcano. We were just feet away from landing on the lip of the Creator when we noticed steam vents all along the crater ,and it was high pressure steam . We were just a few feet from being steamed.

about 11 seconds.

Too long...

Lava is very, very hot but it's also not the greatest conductor of heat. Your skin would burn off very quickly and then the other layers as well, but not so "instantly" that you would feel nothing.

Might be moments, might be seconds, might be a minute.

No matter how long, it would be the longest of those units of time you'd ever spend.

the other guy is right, the heat would be so intense that it would basically fry any nerves so you wouldn't even feel pain, and depending on how you fell it might be instantaneous or take a second, headfirst no pain, instant, feet first you might feel a split second of pain

The death is instant.

The reason is becuase the heat exopsure, your body will also go into shock and you will passout, trauma to the body at that kind of caliber will shock the system and you will be dead before you are consumed by it. 0 pain

About 1second or 2 seconds. It would be pretty instant.
