Our society encourages all manner of stereotypes. Our women must all wear size 0s and be hot and attractive, wearing the nicest clothes, etc. All men must be hypermasculine and be into sports and guzzle down beers in order to be considered a man.
Seriously, I blame our media. As the years have come and gone, we have seen trends started by our media. Whether it was for a certain pair of jeans, or a counter-cultural reference for our society (hippies, emo, etc.).
It's hard to be accepted for who we are, because we buy whatever the media tells us to. So, we're just as guilty as the media. We've fallen into a very sexual, yet dark trap from whence there may be no escape.

Because most people are "normal", that is, they have no imagination or tolerance for people who are not normal, because they perceive it as a threat instead of a wonderful gift of God to make as many different kinds of unique people as He chooses.
Most normal people follow Anna Nicole Smith instead of Einstein, watch reality TV instead of Casablanca, read trashy romance novels instead of A Tale of Two Cities. They say they accept others, but what they are really saying is that they accept you IF you are the same - all the while saying that you have to be an individual - right! "Normal" people all watch the same weak-talented rappers and the men wear their shorts down to their behinds, while the women dress as sluts with tattoos. But they are conformists.
I feel sorry for them. Be who you are. The hell with the critics.

You are asking this in the reverse. Do you accept you just the way you are? If you truly did those around would be more accepting of you as well. Those that are not accepting of you don't matter.

It depends on who you are wanting to accept you!
Some people are pig headed social climbing snobs and will never accept you.

People will always want you to behave their way, if not they find it hard to accept.
