Twilight and New Moon by Meyer are amazing! I loved them!
A Great and Terrible Beauty and Rebel Angels by Bray are great too.
Inkheart and Inkspell by Funke are marvelous books as well.
The Princess Bride by Goldman will always be one of my favorite books!
If you would like to read something a little darker, the Wicked and Son of a Witch by Maguire are two of the best books I have ever read, as are Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister and Mirror Mirror by Maguire. Let's just say Maguire is a fantastic author!
And for more classical tastes, Alice's Adventure's in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass by Carroll are fantastic! And after reading that, you can read the more modern Looking Glass Wars by Beddor, which is great as well. The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by Baum is amazing as well.
Enjoy!

For fantasy, you might try Piers Anthony's Xanth series. They are set in a land shaped like Florida (author's home) filled with odd and colorful characters and are full of puns. They're pretty fun.
I really enjoyed Anne McCaffrey's Dragonriders of Pern series. It's similar to Eragon, but written years prior. A group of people are shipwrecked on the planet Pern and they have to start over. Dragons are native, and some of the people "impress" dragons when they hatch (sounds familiar, I know). As a pair they grow together and train to fight thread, something that falls from the air periodically and destroys everything it touches if it hits the ground. The series also goes into the firelizards that live there as well as the dolphins. The people also have trades if they don't live in weyrs, and there are stories about some of these individuals. It's good stuff.
Another interesting series is by Katherine Kurtz and it has to do with a magical race called the Deryni. They have been "underground" because they've been hunted, but they have to come back and reclaim what is theirs.
Maybe that will give you a few different choices. Have fun. Like you, I'll be looking for my Harry Potter book in July.

I highly recommend Jonathan Stroud's Bartimaeus trilogy.
I also recommend anything by Diana Wynne Jones. She was writing about young witches and wizards long before JKR; some are for younger readers but even as an adult I liked them a lot. Try Howl's Moving Castle or The Lives of Christopher Chant. Fire and Hemlock and The Homeward Bounders are good, too-- F & H is good if you have a good background in fantasy and myth because she uses those motifs a lot. It's the most adult of the ones I've listed here.
And last but not least, try Susan Cooper's Dark is Rising. There are five books in the series, but you can skip Over Sea Under Stone-- it's written for younger readers.
Or one more-- Lloyd Alexander's Chronicles of Prydain which starts with The Book of Three. The second book, The Black Cauldron, was made into a Disney movie-- NOT a good Disney movie. If you saw it, forget it immediately and read the book.
All the authors are British except for Alexander, and his Prydain is sort of like Wales.
I will stop here or I'll start naming others like The Neverending Story. .. .
Couldn't resist seconding the suggestion of Anne McCaffrey's Dragonriders and the Gareth Nix. And Terry Prachett.

Tamora Pierce books!! A girl who has magic powers and wants to be a knight.
Goose Girl by Shannon Hale!! It's not exactly a series but there are like 3 individual books that have some of the same people in it. It's about a princess who is on her way to her betrothals kingdom when 'someone' tries to kill her to steal her throne.
I think someone already said the Pendragon series by D.J.MacHale but I'm going to say it again because I'm reading those books right now and I think they're really good!
Well..Hope you find a good book! Enjoy

i get the genre but i don't think the ones i'm going to say are in it.
''charlie bone'' is a series and it reminded a lot of harry potter with a little twist to it
''pendragon'' is more of a futuristic book about a boy time traveler but it's not dorky or boring at all and it's a series
"cirque de freak" is about vampires but it's not too scary and really cool, even j.k. reviewed it and said she liked it and it's also a series
i read mostly series books too and all the ones i mentioned have at least 4-5 books out already

It has already been suggested here, but I can't help rementioning it since I'm just newly discovering it for myself. But I LOVE the Bartimaeus trilogy by Jonathan Stroud. If you haven't read it, you definitely should!!!
You might also be interested in The Thief, Queen of Attolia, and King of Attolia by Megan Whelan Turner. I've read the first two of the series, and they are good...and as soon as my library gets King, I'll finish up the series.
Percy Jackson series by Rick Riordan. (The Lightning Thief, Sea of Monsters, The Titan's Curse...the last of which will be released this spring...but still months before HP7)
Endymion Spring by Matthew Skelton
Monster Blood Tattoo Book One: Foundling by D.M. Cornish

The Abhorsen Trilogy by Garth Nix is fantastic. It's definitely something you should like if you're into HP and such. The books are Sabriel, Lirael, and Abhorsen. I completely recommend them. They're about necromancy and magic and this fictional world of The Old Kingdom. I can't really give details without giving away the plot, but you should definitely read them.

Want to try something different but very good. Try the Xenogenesis series by Octavia E. Butler
She is a science fiction writer who has won both Hugo and Nebula awards. In 1995, she became the first science fiction writer to receive MacArthur Foundation "Genius" Grant.
