I can think of about a half-dozen ways to schedule interleague games that would be far superior to the way MLB does it. Here are some:
1. Get rid of it. Keep the interleague mystique.
2. Schedule a series with every team each year, alternating locations yearly.
3. Don't designate special interleague weekends. Scatter the games throughout the season. This could also eliminate another problem, that of having one 4-team division and one 6-team division. If you remove the barriers between the leagues, you could have all 5-team divisions and still have everyone play on a given day.
4. At the very least, make the yearly rotation regular and alternate sites. I hate the stupid "interleague rivalries." St. Louis gets 6 games with the Royals every year, and the rest of the NL Central has to contend with decent rivals.
The bottom line is they took a decent, simple idea and completely screwed it up for no good reason at all.

I don't like the way they have set up interleague mainly because it seems the teams can almost pick and choose who they want to play (the Indians, for instance, seem to add games against the Reds because they draw well and no reason other than that).
The Yankees, being the Yankees, are a big draw regardless of whom they play - it would be interesting to find out if some team like the Mets asked for the schedule to be adjusted so they could play the Yankees more often.
Personally, I would rather see interleague done away with - or failing that a more equitable schedule where teams play teams in other divisions on a rotating basis. (There are other changes I would make in interleague play as well, but since they have nothing to do witn your question there is no need to go over them now.)

The interleague schedule does move from division to division each year, but there are exceptions to this rule. For example, Houston (NL) plays Texas (AL) every season because of a natural in-state rivalry.
Another problem arises when the NL Central (six teams) is slated to play the AL West (four teams). When this happens, the NL Central teams have to find a few series outside their scheduled interleague opponent to make up the difference. Hence the Pirates games in New York.
Interleague scheduling is far from perfect, but if it did not exist you'd never have a chance of seeing the Yankees in Pittsburgh, which will happen eventually.

I love the interleague schedule. It makes for some great games. For example, May 15-17, the Cardinals are going to have a weekend rematch with the Tigers. These kinds of matchups could not happen without Interleague. In my opinion, interleague is one the best things MLB has done in years!

The interleague schedule is a joke. It was supposed to move each year across the divisions but that seems to have been forgotten. In my area (NY), it used to be a big deal when the Mets played the Yankees. Now they do it several times every year, and it's no longer all that exciting.

i'm against realignment, yet I disagree with maximum of your arguments. For one, communities have one or 2 days off a week besides, so scheduling does no longer be a situation if achieved authentic. As for the type of communities each and each branch: an NL needed team would not could beat 5 communities to win the branch. It has to play 162 video games, in simple terms like numerous different team. If it has a extra perfect record than the different communities interior the branch on the top of the 365 days, it particularly is because of the fact it performed each and each of a similar combatants a similar type of situations because of the fact the different communities interior the branch. same is going for the AL west. i do no longer see why making divisions in step with geography is a bad element. They actually are authentic now, with some outstanding exceptions. If some communities have been moved around completely authentic now, it may sparkling up the themes that MLB is finding to handle. i could in simple terms hate to work out them create divisions in step with recent team overall performance (as an occasion, keeping apart the Yankees, purple Sox, and Rays). to respond to your final question, no. custom would not remember whilst it includes sensible transformations interior the league. If we went in basic terms on custom, we'd have not have been given any replay, no DH, and no playoffs outdoors of the international sequence. Take it a step added. we'd have not have been given any growth communities, no communities on the west coast, and African American and Hispanic gamers does no longer be allowed interior the league. There'd be no night video games, no batting helmets, and no on-base proportion. custom is super for honoring previous gamers, yet has no place in governing the league.

Interleague is great. Is a way to keep the long season interesting, because you see matcher that are not the same year. Ok, Mets Yankees every year? So is Boston´against the Royals, and by far, the Mets Yankees is more interesting.
Ok, Kansas sweep the red sox last year and that was cool....

Yeah it sucks they should have the two WS teams play everybody in the other league for one home and home series, and get rid of interleague rivalries. ie the White Socks-Cubs, Yankees-Mets, etc I do not care if the Brewers play the Twins every year we just get a bunch of drunk Wisconsinites to stink up the Dome every year and it is a series you cannot take kids to unless you get family section tickets. Other than that they should rotate teams every year, I would rather see the Orioles, Angels, Yankees, etc play one more series here every year than have made up semi rivalries.
