How do you tell someone that their deodorant (if any) just isn't getting the job done?

A realistic way you could do it is say that you have really sensitive nasal membranes (or some similar odour-affecting biological disorder), and that you have always suffered from irritation to your nose. Make out that your nasal disability could seem worse than their BO, and then they probably won;t be offended. You will have to put it across convincingly I guess, it depends on how bad you want the person to know. At least this method would get them to check themselves and possibly be a bit more attentive to their hygeine, instead of feeling attacked or embarassed.

Be honest, tell them that their deodorant isn't working, make it sound like you are being a friend and doing a favor, like trying to tell someone they have something stuck in their teeth.

You don't. You put a little bow on a good stick of deodorant and slip it somewhere they'll find it when they're not looking, like on a desk or in their bag. If you confront the person about it, they're feel REALLY embarrassed.
