Okay,so I went to my first OB/GYN appointment yesterday. I am 11 weeks. When my doctor did the internal exam, and put her hand in me, she said my uterus felt "extremely" pregnant and wanted to do an ultrasound to determine if it's twins- that it was a strong possibility.I said - WHAT? (and my husband was like- whoo hoo! And was like- NO!) So, has anyone ever had this happen to them? What's going on? Can a doctor actually feel if a uterus is bigger for how far along you are? (I know I'm not further along then then I thought, because my period has been very regular) Thank you.

Yes, your uterus is bigger when you are carrying twins. I was told I was pregnant with twins at 7 weeks via ultrasound!!

33 weeks pregnant with twins and uterus is measuring 45 weeks.

My last pregnancy my doctor thought I was further along then I was based on my internal exam. The ultrasound , and the eventually earlier birth of a 10lb 1oz baby, confirmed this.

Turns out I had a period after I got pregnant, which is a not uncommon possibility.

I was told my uterus was large during an internal exam but when they did the ultrasound only one baby was in there. My dates were also accurate

So I dont think it is the case all of the time. Also could be bigger if this isnt your first pregnancy

I have never heard of this but possible I guess. Why didn't she just give you an ultrasound and find out then and there? I would go back, say you have cramps or something and make them give you one so you don't have to keep wondering. Good luck, twins are great but I hope that you have help.

The ultrasound will confirm it. You're either A, further along than you think (doesn't matter if you think you're certain on dates, there's always room for error) or B, welcome to the twin club!!! Don't stress yet. Twins are work, but they're loads of fun.

Yes, he can feel how big the uterus is and whether it is bigger than it should be for your date.
